A man was shot and wounded by police in Bell Monday, prompting an investigation by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives.

The shooting occurred about 7:45 a.m. in the 4000 block of East Florence Avenue, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputies located a vehicle connected to a reported grand theft. As they approached the vehicle and attempted to detain the driver, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect fled the scene, prompting a vehicle pursuit by law enforcement. The chase continued until reaching the 2500 block of Slauson Avenue in Huntington Park, where a brief standoff occurred before the suspect complied and was taken into custody.

”The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Medical aid was immediately rendered to the suspect,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.

He was taken to a hospital and listed in stable condition, but the extent of his injuries was not immediately available.

Sheriff’s detectives were sent to the scene about 9:45 a.m. to assist the Bell Police Department in the shooting investigation.

There were no reports of injuries to officers and no details about what led up to the shooting were immediately available.
