A suspect swinging a metal chain at passing vehicles and passerbys in Watts Tuesday was shot and killed by Los Angeles Police Department officers, police said.
At around noon Tuesday, Southeast Division officers responded to a radio call of an assault with a deadly weapon suspect in the area of Kalmia and 103rd streets, police said.
Upon their arrival to the area, officers encountered the suspect, who ignored officer commands to surrender. Officers first shot the man with 40mm less lethal rounds which had no effect, police said.
The suspect attempted to advance on the officers when a shooting occurred, according to police. The suspect was struck and taken into custody, after which he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
