Menifee police officers will be out in force a week from Wednesday to crack down on motorcyclists ignoring traffic rules.
The Menifee Police Department said the enforcement effort is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 19, at undisclosed locations citywide.
“The safety of the community remains our top priority, and the department recognizes the need to protect the public by looking for violations made by drivers and riders that put the public at risk,” Sgt. Dan Beare said.
Beare said officers will be on the lookout for violations involving both motorcyclists and others. Infractions may include neglecting to use turn signals, neglecting to give other drivers enough space on the road and reckless lane splitting.
Riders must wear helmets, but were advised to always use protective gear as well, such as gloves and leather clothing.
Motorcyclists are 28 more times likely to die in a crash than occupants of a four-wheel vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Funding for the enforcement campaign was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
