A driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol was facing a possible vehicular manslaughter charge Tuesday following a collision in the Florence section of South Los Angeles that left a 68-year-old man dead.

The crash was reported at 10:27 p.m. Monday at the intersection of West 76th Street and Broadway, where a southbound Chevrolet Trax collided with an eastbound Toyota Camry, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The 68-year-old man at the wheel of the Camry was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, while the driver of the compact SUV, who allegedly ran a red light and was later found to be under the influence of alcohol, sustained minor injuries and was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, police said.

The suspect’s name, age and gender were not immediately available.
