A teenage boy was fatally struck by an alleged hit-and-run driver in Dana Point Tuesday.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded Tuesday morning to Dana Point Harbor Drive and Park Lantern on a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Sheriff’s officials said the victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s department did not release any details about the victim, but reports from the scene indicated it was a 13-year-old boy.

The suspect “fled the area and, with the help of witnesses, was quickly located,” according to the sheriff’s department. “The suspect was detained for further investigation.”
