Firefighters kept smoky flames in a dryer fire from spreading through a two-story apartment building in the Palms area of Los Angeles Saturday, with help from residents who held the fire at bay with a fire extinguisher until they arrived.

The fire was reported at 1:32 p.m. Saturday at 3121 S. Bagley Ave., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Lyndsey Lantz.

“Firefighters fully extinguished active flames in 14 minutes and ensured the fire had not extended into the walls or upper floor of the structure,” Lantz said.

No injuries were reported.
