Fire in an electrical cabinet caused firefighters to evacuate Metro stations near the Westlake District and downtown Tuesday.
The fire was reported at 1:04 p.m. at the Westlake/MacArthur Park Station at 662 S. Alvarado St., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
She described it as “small” and said it was located and put out.
The station was evacuated, along with the Seventh Street/Metro Center Station downtown, authorities said. The closures forced subway trains on the Metro B (Red) and D (Purple) lines to turn back in each direction to avoid the stations. The Metro E (Expo) and A (Blue) light rail lines were also impacted due to the Seventh Street station closure.
The Seventh Street/Metro Center Station was reopened shortly before 3 p.m., and the Westlake station reopened about an hour later.
No injuries were reported.
