A device believed to be an artillery shell was discovered Wednesday in the backyard of a residence in Santa Clarita, prompting a bomb squad investigation.
Investigators from the sheriff’s Arson Explosives Detail responded shortly after noon Wednesday to the 24000 block of Telegraph Hill Court after reports of a suspicious device resembling an artillery shell, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita station.
The sheriff’s station noted that the area was clear later Wednesday and that the community was no longer threatened, but authorities had not disclosed how the device ended up at the location or what exactly it was.
The investigation remained ongoing Wednesday afternoon.
