A person died Saturday at the scene a traffic collision on the mountainous Grapevine stretch of the Golden State (5) Freeway.
The crash was reported at 11:32 a.m. Saturday on the northbound 5 just south of Smokey Bear Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A witness told the CHP that two people were out of vehicles, talking on the right shoulder.
Someone at the scene suffered a medical emergency resulting in death, Officer Megan Curtiss told City News Service. She said it wasn’t clear whether the emergency was before, during or after the multi-vehicle collision. A description of the victim was not immediately available.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office was summoned to the scene, Curtiss said.
