A 50-year-old man mortally wounded in Lakewood, possibly by his brother, was identified by authorities Monday.

The shooting occurred at 2:37 p.m. Thursday at Lakewood Boulevard and South Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Arriving deputies found a gunshot victim, later identified by the county medical examiner’s office as Armando Ruiz, next to a vehicle and were alerted to a suspect running away whom they were able to detain, sheriff’s officials said.

Ruiz was taken to a hospital by ambulance and was later pronounced dead, sheriff’s officials said.

Investigators learned both the suspect and victim were inside the vehicle arguing when the shooting occurred. They believe Ruiz knew the suspect and a news videographer who was at the scene told City News Service the victim and suspect were brothers.

A firearm was recovered at the location.

Anyone with information was asked to call homicide detectives at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
