A 70-year-old man was found dead in Mead Valley outside of Perris and his son was arrested for suspicion of killing him, authorities said Monday.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Station were summoned at 4:14 a.m. Sunday to the 20000 block of Clark Street to investigate an unresponsive male, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Alberto Loureiro.

“Upon arrival, deputies located the male and performed lifesaving measures, but the male, later identified as Angel Gonzalez, a 70-year-old resident of Mead Valley, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Loureiro said. .

Homicide detectives were called to the scene, he said.

“During the investigation, Gonzalez’s son, Juan Gonzalez, a 47-year-old resident of Mead Valley, was identified as the suspect,” Loureiro said. “Gonzalez was taken into custody and booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center for murder.”

Gonzalez’s bail was set at $1 million, according to sheriff’s inmate records.

The investigation was ongoing, he added.
