A man was arrested on a possible gun charge Saturday morning after barricading himself in an apartment in Hawthorne, authorities said.
The Hawthorne Police Department requested a Sigalert at 6:20 a.m. Saturday closing El Segundo Boulevard between Prairie Avenue and Hawthorne Boulevard due to the situation, the California Highway Patrol reported. The Sigalert was requested in response to a radio call of gunshots in the 4100 block of El Segundo Boulevard.
“Upon arriving in the area, officers heard several additional gunshots and what sounded like a firearm being `racked,”’ police said in a statement.
Officers located a possible suspect in a nearby apartment during their investigation and were able to safely persuade him to surrender. He was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of illegal discharge of a firearm.
“At this time, we are not aware of any victims and have no reason to believe anyone was injured,” according to the police statement. “The Hawthorne Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident. ”
The Sigalert was canceled at 8:12 a.m., the CHP said.
