A 41-year-old man has been arrested after violating a restraining order by entering the Burbank home of relatives who called officers twice in three days to deal with him, including once when he was armed with a hatchet, authorities said Saturday.
Officers were first called to a home in the 1000 block of East Orange Grove Avenue at about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lt. Brent Fekety of the Burbank Police Department.
Police say Hardeep Sidhu, who had outstanding warrants, brought a hatchet to the home while under an active criminal protective order and was arguing with family members.
The relatives told officers they did not want to prosecute Sidhu and were not afraid of him, the lieutenant said.
“After several hours of unsuccessful de-escalation efforts, a risk assessment, and consulting with the family, officers cleared the scene,” he added.
The family called officers back to the home at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, saying Sidhu was inside their home, they now feared for their safety and wanted him prosecuted, Fekety said.
“Officers made additional de-escalation attempts, including crisis negotiation and the use of less-lethal systems,” he said. “At approximately 8:35 p.m., the man was taken into custody after a deployment of chemical agents.”
Sidhu was booked for suspicion of multiple offenses, including robbery, elder abuse, narcotics possession and violation of a court order, with formal charges pending review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Fekety said.
No injuries were reported.
