A man was fatally injured Tuesday after running a red light in Palmdale, losing control of his speeding SUV and crashing into three vehicles, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 9:17 p.m. Monday at the intersection of 47th Street East and Avenue R-8, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Palmdale station told City News Service.
Preliminary information indicated the man was driving a silver 2007 Cadillac Escalade south on 47th Street East at a high rate of speed, according to an LASD statement.
“The driver failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Avenue R-8 and collided into a 2018 silver Honda HR-V who was making a left turn onto Avenue R-8 from the northbound lanes of 47th Street East,” sheriff’s officials said.
“The driver of the silver Escalade lost control of his vehicle and became airborne. The … silver Escalade collided into a 2002 green Cadillac Escalade, who was driving north on 47th Street East in the number two lane. The silver Escalade continued south on 47th Street East and collided into a 2019 gray Honda CR-V, who was driving north on 47th Street East in the number two lane.”
The driver of the silver Escalade was rushed by ambulance to a hospital where he later died, sheriff’s officials said.
The investigation continued and anyone with information about the crash was asked to call the Palmdale station’s Traffic Department at 661-272-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
