A motorist suspected of driving under the influence and causing a two-vehicle wreck at a Moreno Valley intersection that killed a 37-year-old man was under arrest Wednesday.
Misty Britan, 42, of Perris was formally taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter for the death of Yoseph Asfaw of Moreno Valley.
Britan remained hospitalized at the Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, apparently under guard.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said that after a review of evidence connected with the collision, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect.
It was unclear when she may be booked into a county detention facility.
Asfaw was fatally injured shortly after 6 p.m. Monday at Frederick Street and Alessandro Boulevard.
Sgt. Marcos Acosta said the victim was at the wheel of a vehicle impacted by the suspect’s car, though specific details were not disclosed.
Firefighters reached the location within minutes and discovered the two motorists trapped in the wreckage with major injuries. No one else was hurt.
The suspect and victim were extricated and transported to the county-run medical center, where Asfaw died less than an hour later.
The suspect was in stable condition Wednesday.
Background information on her was unavailable.
