A woman in her 60s was taken to a hospital in critical condition Wednesday after firefighters knocked down a fire at a home in South Los Angeles.

The blaze broke out around 4:20 p.m. at a single-family residence in the 200 block of West 83rd Street, where reports of people trapped prompted a prioritized rescue operation, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was extinguished in 18 minutes, and the cause remains under investigation.

The exact nature of the woman’s injuries was not immediately known.
