Firefighters Tuesday morning were battling a major emergency fire in a two-story commercial building that partially collapsed in the Winnetka section of the San Fernando Valley, sending one person to a hospital.

The fire was reported at 5:10 a.m. in the 20200 block of West Sherman Way, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department and crews continued to the fight blaze over an hour later.

Video from the scene showed flames leaping through the roof of the building as crews poured a stream of water on the blaze from a ladder hose and at least 8 emergency vehicles had converged on the fire.

The intense blaze caused a partial collapse on both floors in one portion of the building, said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Fire crews working in the rear of the building are also working to prevent any further extension through the office building, Stewart added.

The patient transported to the hospital is a women who is in fair condition, said Capt. Erik Scott.
