A 17-year-old girl was among three people believed to be family members killed Thursday in shooting inside a Lakewood home City Councilmember Todd Rogers said was a murder-suicide.
Deputies responded at around 7:55 a.m. Thursday to the 5800 block of Lorelei Avenue, near South Street, to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
When deputies arrived, they were met outside the home by a “distraught” woman who was taken into custody for questioning, while inside they found three dead people — the teen girl, a man, and a woman, all thought to be from the same family, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detective Daniel Vizcarra told reporters at the scene.
The woman detained did not sustain any injuries and was taken to the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station.
Vizcarra said a gun was recovered at the home.
Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters cleared the location by 8:51 a.m. and did not take anyone to a hospital, a fire department, spokesman said.
“There is no threat to the public at-large and there is no outstanding suspect,” Rogers wrote on social media.
There was no outside threat to the public, Vizcarra said.
Anyone with additional information regarding the fatal shooting was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
