A man attacked multiple times with a metal object, then run over by the suspect’s car in broad daylight in Beverly Hills Friday has died, police said.
A 54-year-old man from San Bernardino with an extensive criminal record including violent crimes was arrested without incident shortly after the assault, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department. Christopher Cornelius was booked into the Beverly Hills Police Department Jail on suspicion of murder. He was being held on a $2 million bail.
Officers responded just after 12:40 p.m. Friday to the area of Wilshire and San Vicente boulevards on multiple reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
The victim was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries. His name was not immediately released.
Cornelius and the victim were involved in an argument, then allegedly attacked the victim multiple times with a metal object, police said.
Cornelius then got into his car and allegedly drove toward the victim, running him over before fleeing to a nearby building.
The relationship between Cornelius and the victim, if any, remains unknown.
