Police Friday said a person found dead at the scene of a fire at home in Boyle Heights died accidentally.
Firefighters responded at about 7:40 p.m. Thursday to the 700 block of South Soto Street, near Whittier Boulevard, to reports of a fire at a single-family dwelling with visible intense heavy smoke, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
The fire was discovered outside, exposing one side of the residence.
Thirty-seven firefighters managed to douse the blaze in 19 minutes, Middleton said.
During a primary search at the location, firefighters discovered an unidentified person dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Los Angeles Police Department investigators determined the death to be accidental, a department spokesman said.
The decedent appears to be a man, but that, and the cause of death, will be determined by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office, according to the LAPD.
