A man suspected of shooting another man to death in Camarillo Saturday was pursued by officers from three law enforcement agencies until he apparently killed himself at a San Diego (405) Freeway exit near Los Angeles International Airport.
The chain of events began at 11:46 a.m. Saturday with the report that a man was shot in the 400 block of Walker Avenue in Camarillo, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Rob Yoos. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ventura County sheriff’s patrol deputies located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the suspect failed to yield and a pursuit began southbound on the Ventura (101) Freeway, he said.
Speeds reached 100 miles per hour and California Highway Patrol officers who were getting into position to take over the pursuit lost sight of the vehicle, Yoos said.
Officers with the LAWAPD eventually spotted the suspect on the southbound 405, according to he CHP. The pursuit ended at the Imperial Highway off-ramp, in the Westchester area of Los Angeles, near LAX.
“The suspect eventually yielded and sometime after stopping, took his own life while inside the vehicle,” Yoos said.
The names of the victim and suspect were not immediately released.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 2:11 p.m. shutting down the off-ramp, and canceled it about 4:40 p.m.
