A 28-year-old man suspected of opening fire on a minivan in Pasadena, killing a passenger, was behind bars Monday.
The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. Wednesday in roughly the 300 block of Ashtabula Street, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
Police said several men were standing near the street when a minivan with two people inside stopped alongside them.
“After a brief interaction, one of the males on the street produced a handgun and fired approximately 13 rounds at the minivan, striking the male in the front passenger seat,” police said. “All parties then fled the scene, and the victim was dropped off at a hospital.”
The victim, 42-year-old Jose Garcia, died at a hospital.
Investigators located the suspect, identified as Everett Johnson, on Thursday and took him into custody without incident. Police said a firearm was also recovered during the arrest. He was booked on suspicion of murder, assault with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon, with bail set at $3 million.
