One person was killed and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley.
Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were called to the southbound freeway, near Penrose Street, at 9:53 p.m. where initial reports said a pedestrian was walking in one of the lanes when the two vehicles crashed, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
The victim — whose name, age and gender were not immediately known– was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 42-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman were listed in serious condition and a 19-year-old woman and a 7 year-old girl were listed in fair condition after the crash. All were taken to hospitals for treatment, Lantz said.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the closure of all lanes of the southbound freeway near the Penrose Street exit for an hour while officers investigated the cause of the crash.
