Firefighters knocked down a townhouse fire in Temple City Wednesday as sheriff’s deputies handled a separate incident involving a man experiencing an apparent mental health crisis on the roof of an adjacent home.
The fire was reported at 6:30 a.m. in the 10000 block of Nadine Street, near Baldwin Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Crews arrived on scene about four minutes later.
The fire was extinguished by 6:54 a.m., and a search of the residence found no victims, the department said.
As firefighters battled the blaze, a man was seen throwing objects from the roof of a neighboring home.
A fire department spokeswoman said there was a “patient” on the roof but did not provide additional details.
Deputies eventually removed the man from the roof.
Despite initial appearances and broadcast reports suggesting the individual was a woman, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said the person was a man who was taken into custody.
It was not immediately clear when the man was taken into custody or whether he was involved in the fire.
