A pipeline leaked oil in Wilmington near the Cerritos Channel Thursday.
The cracked pipe and leak was reported about 4:35 a.m. Thursday at 1500 E. Anchorage Road, near the location where the Terminal Island (47) Freeway crosses the Commodore Schuyler F. Heim Bridge, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The pipe leaked a mixture of water and oil onto a drilling property.
“The leak was largely confined to land, with waterways minimally affected,” according to fire department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz, who said evacuations initially issued for live-aboard boats at nearby docks have been lifted and no injuries reported.
“Several agencies including Watershed Management and the U.S. Coast Guard were involved at the height of the incident, which has now been turned over to the private company equipped with vacuum trucks and other resources to handle cleanup,” Lantz said in an update issued about 8 a.m.
