A man suspected of shooting and wounding another man last year was behind bars Friday after months on the run and a multi-agency effort that led to his arrest in Desert Hot Springs, authorities said.
Diego Antonio Gallardo, 32, was booked into the Benoit Detention Center Thursday and was being held on $1 million bail, according to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.
Officers responded about 6 p.m. Sept. 21, 2025, to reports of a shooting in the area of Palm Drive and Second Street in Desert Hot Springs, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives quickly identified Gallardo as the suspect, police said.
Police said investigators later recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting after executing search warrants, but the suspect had fled and remained at large.
Gallardo was located and arrested Thursday in Desert Hot Springs by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office Gang Impact Team and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, police said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known.
