A man accused of shooting two people in a parking lot in Baldwin Park, leaving them in critical condition, before fatally shooting himself in Covina was identified Tuesday by county authorities.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in a Target parking lot in the 3100 block of Baldwin Park Boulevard shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.

A man and a woman were taken to a hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds, police said.

Baldwin Park police tracked the suspect’s vehicle to Covina, where officers discovered he had shot and killed himself when they approached the car, authorities said.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office identified the suspect as 31-year-old Fred Garcia. His place of residence was not immediately available.

Police said the victims and Garcia knew one another, but no motive was immediately disclosed.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call the Baldwin Park Police Department at 626-960-1955. Anonymous tips can also be sent to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
