Police sought the public’s assistance Wednesday in locating a suspected hit-and-run driver allegedly responsible for severely injuring a man in his 60s in the North Hollywood area.

The collision occurred at about 9:20 p.m. on Jan. 24, when the man was walking northbound across Bellaire Avenue in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a white 2017-19 Nissan Rogue Sport traveling westbound on Sherman Way, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim was thrown into the air and landed on the roadway, police said. The driver continued heading west on Sherman Way without stopping to render aid.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene and took the man to a hospital, where he was being treated for severe injuries, police added.

Detectives assigned to the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division determined, after a preliminary investigation, that the suspect vehicle had exited a shopping center at 12650 Sherman Way moments before the collision, noting that the vehicle may have visible damage to the front hood or fender as a result of the crash.

“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” the police department said in a statement.

A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to the identity, arrest and conviction of the suspect.
