A 39-year-old teacher at an exclusive private school in Calabasas is facing possible felony charge Friday after being arrested for possessing obscene material depicting a minor.
The suspect, Travis Shojinaga, a teacher at Viewpoint School, was arrested around 4 p.m. Wednesday, according Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department jail records.
The arrest was made after a student reported her teacher was taking inappropriate photos of her and other students, according to a broadcast report.
The school, with tuition costing around $50,000 per year, issued a statement to its community on Thursday:
“Yesterday we learned of troubling allegations against a faculty member. We immediately launched an investigation and notified the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Lost Hills Station. The employee was subsequently taken into custody, and his employment has been terminated.”
School officials said they are “working closely and cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate the matter,” but added that the allegations do not involve physical contact.
The case remains under investigation.
