Police opened fire on a suspect in the Mid-City section of Los Angeles Tuesday, and although the man was hit, he was reported to be hospitalized in stable condition.
No officers were injured in the shooting, which happened after officers were called at about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday to the 1800 block of Alsace Avenue, just south of Venice Boulevard near Redondo Boulevard, to investigate an assault with a deadly weapon call, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Prior to the shooting, police had said a suspect in a vehicle was reported to have pointed a gun at someone who asked him to turn his music down.
A report from the scene showed a gun and a knife were visible behind a police cruiser at the location, where overhead video showed a large presence of officers.
An LAPD spokesman said when officers arrived they were directed to the suspect, who had what appeared to be a firearm, and a shooting occurred.
The officer said the man was hit in the upper body. Broadcast reports indicated he was shot in the face. He was taken to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, who were called to the scene about an hour after the initial call.
An officer said the suspect’s condition was stable.
The purported firearm and a knife would be booked as evidence, the officer said.
The suspect’s name and age were not disclosed.
