Los Angeles Police Department officers shot an allegedly armed suspect near Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles Thursday morning.

The shooting was reported about 4:10 a.m. in the area of Seventh Street and Ceres Avenue, according to an LAPD spokesman.

Officers had responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the location.

The age, gender and condition of the suspect was not immediately available and the spokesman referred additional questions to public information officers who were dispatched to the scene.

There were no immediate reports of officers being injured.

Streets in the immediate area were closed for the police investigation.

Video from the scene showed a large police presence, a cruiser that was stopped with its front end on a sidewalk and what appeared to be the suspect being loaded into an ambulance.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman confirmed that paramedics took a male of unknown age and condition to a hospital.
