A fast-moving brush fire in Moreno Valley grew to about 50 acres Friday and was threatening to expand.

The fire was reported about 11 a.m. in the 15900 block of Gilman Springs Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The blaze was initially estimated at roughly 5 acres but quickly spread, with the potential to reach as much as 1,000 acres, fire officials said.

Evacuation orders and warnings were being established in the area as crews worked to contain the fire.

Two air tankers and about 30 engines were requested to assist in battling the blaze, according to the fire department.

Gilman Springs Road between Alessandro Road and Bridge Street was temporarily closed.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, and no injuries were immediately reported.
