A 37-year-old man suspected of removing food items from a store display and walking out of the business without paying has been taken into custody, authorities announced Tuesday.

Deputies assigned to the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station responded at 12:52 p.m. March 17 to the 200 block of South Atlantic Boulevard to a robbery, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Further investigation led deputies to identify Quandrell Ivey as the suspect.

Sheriff’s officials said Ivey managed to bypass the manned register at the business and walk toward the door without attempting to pay for items, allegedly pushing an employee to the ground and rendering him unconscious before fleeing the location.

It was unclear if the employee was seriously injured.
