A 45-year-old man who was fatally shot in downtown Los Angeles was identified Friday by county authorities.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office determined the victim is Kareem Newton.
Police were called at 11:56 p.m. Wednesday to East Fifth and South Crocker streets regarding a shooting. When they arrived at the scene, witnesses told the officers the victim, Newton, was sitting inside a vehicle with a woman when a man approached, shot him and ran away, an LAPD officer told City News Service.
Newton was struck by gunfire and Los Angeles Fire Department personnel took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The woman inside the vehicle was not injured and the suspect is still at large.
