Santa Ana police Monday were investigating a shooting that left two men dead and another injured.
Officers responded about 9 p.m. Sunday to the area of Borchard Avenue and Shelton Street, according to Santa Ana Police Department Officer Natalie Garcia.
Eusebio Villareal, 49, of Santa Ana and Marlon Jaime Castillo, 46, of Fullerton, were killed in the shooting, Garcia said.
A 43 year-old Los Angeles man was shot in the leg and is expected to survive, she added.
Castillo was acquitted of attempted murder in March 2005 and convicted of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, but that was overturned on appeal due to judicial misconduct. He pleaded guilty in September 2009 and in November won a motion to have the plea withdrawn when he argued he did not understand the consequences on his immigration status, according to court records.
Castillo was awaiting trial for assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
