A Silver Alert was activated on behalf of an at-risk 81-year-old man last seen Wednesday in Gardena.

Hiroji Watanabe was last seen at approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday near Gardena and Hobart boulevards, according to the California Highway Patrol, which activated the alert on behalf of the Gardena Police Department.

Watanabe was described as a 5-foot-4-inch-tall man weighing 147 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray hat, jacket, pants and black shoes.

Anyone with information regarding Watanabe’s whereabouts was urged to call 911.

The Silver Alert program was established by the CHP to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearances of elderly, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired individuals.
