A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking in a crosswalk in Palm Springs, police said Thursday.
The crash was reported at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of East Palm Canyon Drive and Cherokee Way, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.
Police said a vehicle being driven east on East Palm Canyon Drive hit the pedestrian, identified only as a man, in the east crosswalk. Investigators believe the vehicle had the right of way due to a green light, police said.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
