A 78-year-old man who was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking in a crosswalk in Palm Springs was identified Friday as a resident of the city.
The crash was reported at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of East Palm Canyon Drive and Cherokee Way, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.
Police said a vehicle being driven east on East Palm Canyon Drive hit the pedestrian in the east crosswalk. Investigators believe the vehicle had the right-of-way due to a green light.
The individual sustained critical injuries and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
The Riverside County Coroner’s office identified the victim as Thomas Diguette.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
