A person suspected of attempted murder led Beverly Hills police on a short pursuit Sunday until colliding with another vehicle and barricading inside a pickup truck with a hostage.

The situation began about 1:30 p.m. Sunday when the Beverly Hills Police Department received an alert that a gray Ford pickup truck wanted in a felony by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was located by Automated License Plate Recognition in their jurisdiction, police said.

Officers spotted the vehicle in the area of San Vicente and Beverly boulevards and attempted a traffic stop but the pickup took off, police said. The pursuit ended when the driver collided into a second vehicle around Burton Way and Robertson Boulevard and officers surrounded it.

As of 5:30 p.m., the standoff continued with patrol cars and a police Bearcat armored vehicle surrounding the pickup and a sun shield set inside the truck’s front window.

ABC7 reported the suspect was wanted for attempted murder and had a hostage inside the truck.

Officers were attempting to negotiate in hopes the suspect will get out of the vehicle, police said.

Area residents and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
