A 46-year-old man who died when he was crushed beneath a car in downtown Los Angeles was identified Monday.

Firefighters responded just after 3 a.m. Friday to a report of a man trapped beneath a vehicle in the area of Pico Boulevard and Broadway, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The man was under the car when crews arrived and lifted the vehicle off of him.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, LAFD spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton said.

He was identified Monday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Daniel Delgado, who sustained traumatic asphyxiation.

Police were investigating how the man ended up under the car, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
