A 48-year-old man who was fatally shot in downtown Los Angeles, the second shooting in the Skid Row area in the span of about four hours, was identified Monday.
Officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon call about 11:10 p.m. Thursday at Fifth and Crocker streets, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. When they arrived, the found a man between 40 and 50 years old had been shot.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
He was identified Monday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Robbie Vivas, who sustained a gunshot wound to the back.
A spokeswoman in the LAPD’s Media Relations Division said the shooting remains under investigation and no suspect information was immediately available.
There was another shooting, this one at Sixth and San Julian streets in the Skid Row, area just after 7 p.m. Thursday, that left three people wounded, but it was unclear if the two cases were related.
In the earlier shooting, a suspect walked to the corner and announced to the victims, “This is where I do business” before firing several shots in their direction, an LAPD officer told City News Service.
The victims — a 33-year-old woman, a 62-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man — were taken to a hospital by LAFD personnel, police said. They were said to have stable vital signs.
The suspect fled the scene after the shooting. Police did not have a description.
