A 56-year-old man was charged Wednesday with shooting a male relative in a domestic dispute in a residential portion of Garden Grove, leaving him in critical condition.

The shooting occurred just before 4 p.m. Monday in the 12100 block of Flagstone Avenue, one block east of Harbor Boulevard, near the Garden Grove (22) Freeway, police said.

The victim — 56-year-old Jeff Fulgham of Garden Grove — sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body, police said. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

Police have not reported what motivated the shooting, but characterized it as a domestic dispute and the two are relatives.

Dale Shelby Shroyer of Garden Grove was charged with attempted murder with sentencing enhancements for discharge of a gun causing great bodily injury and attempted premeditated murder.

Fulgham remained in critical condition, but was expected to survive, according to Garden Grove Police Department Sgt. Nick Jensen.

Shroyer did not enter a plea at his arraignment in the Central Justice Center on Wednesday. The hearing was rescheduled for May 27 in the West Justice Center in Westminster.
