A hiker died on the trail up Mount Wilson from Sierra Madre Saturday, marking the second Saturday in as many weeks that a hiker has died on the popular trail.
In this latest instance, a 53-year-old man suffered a medical emergency, Sierra Madre Police Department Sgt. J. Rodriguez told City News Service.
Police received a call about 10 a.m. Saturday about a hiker experiencing a medical emergency, Rodriguez said. Police closed the 6-mile trail between Sierra Madre and the mountain’s peak.
Officers and Sierra Madre Fire Department firefighters found the hiker and tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
There was no evidence of foul play, Rodriguez said. The death remained under police investigation and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office will determine the man’s cause of death.
The trail was reopened at 2:04 p.m.
Last Saturday, the trail was closed after a hiker fell down a fixed rope section of the trail and died from cardiac arrest, officials said.
