Firefighters Sunday knocked down a major emergency structure fire at a two-story commercial building with a mezzanine in downtown Los Angeles.
The approximately 124 firefighters dispatched at 3:58 a.m. Sunday to 1225 S. Hope St. had the blaze out at 5:52 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The bulk of the fire came from the first floor and at one point firefighters transitioned from an offensive to defensive mode while battling the blaze.
At least two nearby high-rise apartment buildings were to be evacuated, according to KTLA5, but no injuries were reported.
