A two-vehicle crash in the Winnetka area of Los Angeles left five people injured Sunday, including four who were hospitalized after being briefly trapped in a vehicle that sheared a fire hydrant.
The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday at 8900 N. Winnetka Ave., at the corner of Nordhoff Street, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
Four patients were initially trapped inside a vehicle while water shot out of the sheared hydrant, Middleton said.
Once they were freed from the vehicle, it was determined the four patients would be taken by ambulance to a hospital, while a fifth patient declined to be taken to a hospital, she said.
The genders, ages and conditions of the patients were not immediately available.
