Firefighters working to put out a 60-acre brushfire in the Lancaster area Saturday succeeded in stopping it before it spread further.

The fire was reported about 2 p.m. Saturday at 50th Street East and East Avenue H, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Forward progress of the fire was stopped at 4:11 p.m. at 60 acres, but crews remained on the scene to make sure hot spots were out.

The blaze was initially reported as 80 acres with a potential to grow to 400, but that was quickly revised downward.

There was no word of structures threatened or injuries.

The National Weather Service has a red flag warning in effect until 10 p.m. for the Antelope Valley and western foothills due to 20-35 mph winds with gusts to 50-60 mph.
