A shooting suspect was wounded by Covina police Friday and taken into custody.
The shooting occurred around 11: 32 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of North Grandview Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which was investigating on behalf of the Covina Police Department,
Sheriff’s officials said police responded to reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, the suspect exited the location and opened fire on officers, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
The suspect retreated into the location before emerging several minutes later, when officers took him into custody without further incident.
Sheriff’s officials said investigators located a handgun believed to be that one used by the suspect at the scene.
He sustained a grazing gunshot wound to the upper body and was given medical aid until fire crews arrived. The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released and booked at the Covina Police Department on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
No officers were injured during the shooting incident.
