A total of 15 people were arrested during a DUI checkpoint in Riverside, authorities announced Saturday.

The checkpoint was conducted at Riverwalk Parkway, north of Pierce Street, from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the Riverside Police Department.

A total of 849 vehicles were contacted. Twelve drivers were arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license.

One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, another was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and a third was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, police said.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
