A fire at the Benjamin J Bowie American Legion Post in South Los Angeles was knocked down in 17 minutes Monday evening.
Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were called at 7:43 p.m. to 5115 S. Central Ave., between 51st and 52nd streets, where the incident commander declared the blaze was knocked down at 8 p.m., said LAFD spokeswoman Jamie Stewart.
No injuries were reported.
The post is named for a Black World War I private from Los Angeles who served in a segregated unit and was killed in France on Sept. 10, 1918, just over two months before the armistice ending the war.
