A man remains barricaded inside a garage after a fire at a South Gate residence Wednesday.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to a fire at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at 10163 McNerney Ave. between Tenaya and Michigan avenues where they knocked down the fire.
A resident of the home who had been arguing with family members, who evacuated during the fire, remained inside the residence, and refused to leave, South Gate Police Capt. Roman Amador told City News Service.
The man continued to refuse to leave the premises when fire crews tried to begin their cleanup and instead barricaded himself inside a garage, police said.
Fox 11 reported the suspect is armed with a machete.
A SWAT team was called to the scene and is attempting to negotiate a surrender with the suspect, Amador said.
